edroe, hams and doug falls (circa 1997)
thought it was a good time to give the wedding stuff a break (although stacie and i welcome all of you to send us your pics). i stumbled upon this photo while perusing the seahawks class of 97's kodak gallery on the interweb and it brought me great joy. for those of you who knew hams this picture speaks volumes. the scruff, sloppy timerland sponsored get up, and the zest for life captured in this shot reminds me of why many of us were such big fans of the kid. sure, after his his mother moved he and his family to emmitsburg he joined the klan, but as always, im sure hams was just looking to hang. he was always down to hang. bball at twin branches? every time. tokemasters before class? you bet ya. and if you were ever in the market to skip a class, hams was your man. it was a very sad day when i pretended to help him move to rural Maryland. anyone who could be besties with hager, ed, george alcorn, doug falls, and kevin docherty is fine by me. i will never forget the day tyler, jodi, and me ate acid and went to great falls. hams (and maybe ted or hager) were there too but did not "drop." two very funny things happened that day. one, in true hams fashion, he popped a zit using the rear passenger window as a mirror not realizing that we were all in the car. the kind of queasy belly laughs that followed are the kind you never forget. about an hour later after tyler almost killed a pedestrian on soapstone dr. he kicked hams out of the rodeo about a block and half from his house because he could no longer deal with ham's persistent questions about what we were doing next. that day kind of sums it all up. hams was a great kid to chew the fat with. he was funny, engaging, endearing and always around to hang out. he was also crass, fairly obnoxious at times, had questionable hygiene habits and was always around to hang out. either way, this picture makes me miss him.

A quick overview of stories about Hams:
-Wiffle Bat bong hits during 2nd period (gym) that made Mike Zak fall over and split his head on a glass coffee table after passing out. Belly laughs and 911 ensued.
-Eating acid with Hams and listening to go-go during 2nd-7th periods when george alcorn swung thru to partake in a scheduled fight between some bama from shadow wood. George won and I was scared.
-The clump
-Hams and I went to Brewston Hughart's house during lunch to cop and Hams ended up stealing Matt Maynard'd stash that was hidden under the sink. Matt Maynard later acted as though he game it to hams
-Hearing of how Coach Liebenstein sent Hams home from 2-adays because after the morning practice he went to the nature path (not showering) and drank a fifth of whiskey. He was suspended even though he was the best player on the team
-Seeing Hams on acid at Doug Fall's house trying to swin in the lake after hours of abuse where he almost drowned and Doug has to rescue him from the raging water of Lake Audabon
-Playing Hams in little league and watching his ugly ass brother yell explitives at our team from right field. We were 12 years old
-Having hams try out for JV basketball and showing up 1 hour late to the first try out. Coach liebenstien made him run 6 in 30's. On the first one, he started at the baseline and never touched the far end as he ran straight thru the gym doors and never came back.
I too miss Hams. I was always slightly afraid of him and do not miss the fear that one day he was going to steal my wallet and beat me up. What a picture!
PS> I miss Doug Falls
those are amazing hams stories. another quick few. at my 10th bday party we stayed at the rtc hyatt. the highlight of the night is when ham's did the chuffle shuffle. senior year, every AM i would pick him up (after scooping ed), he would come out every AM in his boxers and ask for 5 minutes at which point ed and i would go into his basement for hits from the cadillac of bongs.
didnt ed schtup doug's mom in a minivan after an O's game?
What a rich story that is.
When Hams and his brother would get to the bottom of a bag of tostitoes they would crush up the remaning chips, top with salsa and eat it with a spoon like cereal.
I miss Hamms, Doug and the clump
