What I've been reading...

Let me start by saying I have recently been obsessed with watching the news following the presidential politics, the bailout. The only breaks have been for excessive scotch tastings, delicious localvore dinners in BK, fantasy football plotting and watching the skins & the sox, basically life per usual + NYT.comx20 + CNN.comx10

I apologize in advance to anyone that I might offend with my thoughts but here it is...

The bailout is crazy and I believe that every tax paying American should be outraged. It is another example of failed policy by the Bush administration and is this administrations way of giving a $700 billion blank check, with no congressional or judicial oversight, to Paulson and his cronies. I don't disagree that drastic measures need to be taken but this shouldn't be done in haste. The markets will correct themselves. Is it just me or did everyone else seem suspicious of Paulson on 60 Minutes: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/28/60minutes/main4483612.shtml

Yes, I feel sorry for the average Joe who might face problems getting a car loan but shouldn't the government help these individuals when they raise their hand instead of giving a blank check to a bunch of bankers that have gotten us into this mess? Federalizing bad debt is a horrible idea, it is one step closer to socialism. One must learn from and be responsible for their bad investments and especially those who work in Finance or for an investment bank. I read that Goldman was actually making way more money hedging against their sub-prime portfolio that they decided to continue to write off the bad debt: http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/Extra/HowGoldmanProfitedFromSubprimeMeltdown.aspx

You don't have to have a Nobel winning Economist to see this coming and yes, I don't understand all the complexities involved BUT I do believe that the Bush Administration has botched our standing in the world, foreign policy, Iraq, Afghanistan, Guantanamo and to allow them to have lasting affect on our Economic policy would be a mistake.

Onto the Election!

I can't wait for the VP debate on Thursday. Much like the lead up to the skins game this weekend, I am nervous, excited and anxious. A ten point underdog going into their biggest rivals home turf in a game you know they can win but also could blow soooooo easily makes for lots of nerves and very little fingernails.

I am obsessed with the Palin choice. I hope everyone has seen softball Katie Couric rip her up outside the UN: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cP12aNzocSc

The countless spoffs on SNL and the Letterman jokes have been awesome. You should definitely read this email too (shoutout to my boo Nel for hitting me w/ this): http://www.crosscut.com/politics-government/17341

and if you have a taste for true liberal slant: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/28/opinion/28rich.html

This race to the White House is going to be awesome. Please make sure to check that you are registered to vote (for NY): http://www.vote.nyc.ny.us/register.html

And If you have any grandparents in Florida please plan on visiting them: http://thegreatschlep.com/site/default.html#

May you live in interesting times.

Dear gov't: I would like you to buy me a bicycle so I can ride it to work. Sterling borders Herndon, so i have plenty of experience with foreign policy.

Thanks again,

I lived near stonegate growing up, as well as the greens and laurel glade.

We would make a dynamite foreign policy team.

I find the best way to deal with all of this is to watch cartoons.
