Shoes on the Road

Today I was amazed at how fascinating I find seeing a lone shoe laying on the road. I'm not sure what it is about a single shoe on the side, or in the middle, of the road that captures my attention and imagination - it just does. Under what circumstances did that shoe come to find itself separated from its shoe brethren? Foul play? Practical joke? Traffic accident? Never sure, I usually conjure up a sordid tale that plays out in my head in about 2 seconds regarding a hitchhiker and a hopped up truck driver.

What ever becomes of these lone shoes? Does anyone ever come back for the shoe? If not where does the shoe go? Does someone stop and pick it up - the eternal optimist if ever there was one. Or does the shoe get pushed aside by each passing car until it is no longer in sight? Coming to rest in the grass along the road only to meat the cruelest of fates at the hands of a giant lawnmower.

The whole thing just fascinates me. Find something that fascinates you as mundane and ridiculous as shoes on the road in your daily life, and share it. You feel a lot better after you get it off your chest. I know I do.

- perhaps it belongs to Joe Jackson

- was there, by any chance, an old woman residing within? lots of kids?

- if one loses a shoe, does his sole go with it?

- the hopped up truck driver definitely plays a role
