It is reported that in Harlem for the past 10 years there is a famous wheelchair panhandler that dodges in and out of traffic hugging the center yellow line. He is a staple around 125th street and he is a regular Evil Knievel in a chair. He was a crowd favorite and an aggressive solicitor who would wheel right up to your window in traffic. Aside from the notable wheelchair, he also only had half of his right leg which also added to his popularity. Despite the inherent danger in playing frogger in a wheelchair for change, and aside from a few mishaps here and there, he had never been seriously injured. That is until early Wednesday morning when this local daredevil was killed by a hit and run. A sad local said it best, “I was on my way to work and I saw all these cop cars and a big crowd around a wheelchair in the street, and I immediately knew what happened,” said Frank Martinez, 37, who lives in the area. “We called him the human divider. One time he got dragged a full block and survived. To tell you the truth, I don’t know how he managed to keep working the middle of the street all these years.”
Oh Wheelchair Panhandler, I hope you are having a neat time in heaven! RIP
