Started Life in 1932 as the Boston Football Braves. (1933 moved to Fenway Park for games and changed name to the Redskins.)
Moved to Washington DC in 1937. Won their first League Championship thier first year in DC.
Last team in the NFL to integrate in 1962. Could explain only three winning seasons between 1946 to 1968. Only integrated after the Interior Secretary said he would evict the team if they did not sign a black player.
Vince Lombardi coached the team to a 7-5-2 record in 1969. Vince died in in 1970.
Coach George Allen revived the team in 1971 relying on vetran players with the slogan "The future is now."
In 1981, new Redskins owner Jack Kent Cooke signed the offensive coordinator of the San Diego Chargers, Joe Gibbs, as their 20th head coach. He coached the team to four Super Bowls, winning three of them. As a team the Redskins have won five Super Bowls.
Redskins were the only team to have no players cross the picket line in the 1987 players' strike. Also won the Super Bowl that year.
Doug Williams became the first black quarterback to play in the Super Bowl. As of today, Doug Williams is the only black quarterback to win a Super Bowl.
The Redskins are the most valuable sports team in the US, coming in at $1.423 billion (with a B). They are also the most profitable NFL team.
FedEx Field is the largest capacity stadium in the NFL. The Redskins have broken the NFL single season attendance record six years in a row.
