a (long) weekend in review

Last nite, the wam and i returned from a glorious and productive weekend in LA. the following is a neat recap of all the festivities.

thrs:

we arrived to burbank which is always a joy. there is something about exiting a plane directly onto the tarmac that makes me feel like im on vacation. no doubt, many of you will experience this pleasure in october. we quickly set out to BE work. we headed to the local municipality to procure our marriage license. pretty much like being at the dmv. after a minor temper tantrum by my soon-to-be father in law (like his daughter, he does not suffer fools well. pretty priceless stuff) and a two hour wait we made it official ticial. now all we need is a rabbi and two witnesses. next, we met with party planner extraordinaire, carol rosen. a force to be reckoned with in the LA wedding scene. while i know it can be done without one, i strongly recommend having a planner do all of the things you dont want to do like human interaction with wedding vendors. we then had our final walk thru at the rehearsal dinner spot. it has all the makings of a magical evening to be sure. thursday nite, stacie had dinner with her folks and i headed down to santa monica for a nite of light cocktails and dinner with some folks i used to know. after a mediocre red snapper dish, we headed to the pier for a free concert. this was most certainly the highlight of the nite. without naming the band i will give a hint. Mr. Windell. wow. so special. we ended the nite at a local meat market where all of my friends tried to convince every 5 in the place to come back to their boats for oral sex. fairly nauseating scene.

friday:

we were once again back on the wedding scene. banged out a walk-thru at the venue, a meeting with the band manager, and met with the ever important florist. we got to see the floral arrangements and place settings for the big day. even though its such a racket, shit looked super fantastique. friday nite stacie had dinner with the rents and her lil bro and once again i headed into LA proper for some high times. i went to Hollywood to meet up with my old college chum, Dan "dank" Kalette. as soon as i walked into the apartment i was struck by a smell reminiscent of Bobbi's closet at buckshot. super heady. dan was standing in his living room with a large selfane bag with a mouth piece that appeared empty. turns out you cant really see vaporized weed. after taking far to many pulls off the bag, dan and i went to a wonderfully stylized restaurant called the bowery. it very much lived up to its billing and felt like home. three succulent lamb chops and two $15 bourbons later i was fat and happy and ready for more vaporized chronic. dan and i spent the nex two hours listening to old phish discs and watching taxi driver without the sound (the tweezer from raliegh 99 was a real banger).

sat:

stacie and her folks ran some errands while mikey "iggy" gillman and played 18 holes of links style golf. fairly unremarkable round. he shot 86 and i shot 92. after golf we headed for in n out for double doubles animal style. in n out is the model of consistency. i have probably had 100 cheeseburgers over the years and i cant remember one that disappointed. sat nite was where things got pretty wild. while sue and arnie moved to the desert over two months ago, their friends in agoura never had a real going away party for them. this was to occur sat nite. the hosts of the party actually own halloween stores across SoCal and my word did they go all out. the theme of the party was surfs up. there were fake surf boards and leis as far as the eye could see. they actually hired a band of aging surf rockers from santa barbara called "the fog" to play the party. it was quite surreal. the host, lenny "longboard" goldman even sat in with the band on a few numbers. yikes!

sunday:

sunday was stacie's bridal shower. mikey, arnie and i got lunch and took care of their tuxedos (just a reminder to all you groomsmen out there, 9/22 at the latest) and then headed over to the shower to watch stacie open her gifts. it was quite a nice event and stacie and i got some epic shit, including a mini dyson vacuum. after the shower we headed to C & B and bloomys and pretty much returned everything so we could buy it again in NYC. weekend capped off with a top notch dinner at the hollywood eatery, Magnolia.

When I leave a plane right on to the tarmac I always have a white suite on, walk out into the sun, pause, glance around (funk punk plays in the background) put on my sun glasses and step down the stairs.
