Shake it like a what.............

This past weekend pam the wam and I ventured out to the left coast in order to celebrate her twin cousins Matthew and Harrison's journey into manhood. Growing up in Reston I had to Jewish friends. Tyler "victory" Sandler and Tommy Goodman. Sandler did not have a Bar Mitzvah until he was 25 (epic party btw) and Tommy Goodman did not invite me because he was threatened the copious amounts of Krew comb I used to keep my high top fresh.

Basically, this was my first real Bar Mitzvah experience and i was super stoked. Let me acknowledge the amazing job these two young men did during the ceremony. You will all no doubt get a huge kick out of these two at the wedding where they will be part of an usher squad not to be trifled with.

So right after the ceremony and brief cocktail hour we are led into the ballroom where HeartToHeart has already set up shop. HeartToHeart is an all encompassing entertainment extravaganza. A DJ, EMCEE, 2 B-Boys and 2 B-Girls. WOW! Consummate pros. They really got the party started quickly. Matthew and Harrison were no longer Mathew and Harrison. For the rest of the night they were H-Bomb and M-Dog. The Next 4 hours were a whirlwind of call and response, group pop and locking, brickhouses, lady humps, glow sticks, glow in the dark dog collars, and super hyper over stimulated sweating prepubescent boys trying to match steps with awkward and gangly girls. I could not look away. A highlight of the night and possibly the funniest thing ever to happen anywhere at any time was when Tina (who we may have remembered from her stint on "so you thing you can dance" asked and then encouraged the crowd to shake it like a what?!?!?! SHAKE IT LIKE A CHOLO!!!!!!!!!

I know what your thinking. NO WAY this is real. I know, it was hard for me to wrap my head around it as well. It was magnificent.

The other highlight of the night is when Stacie's grandmother's boyfriend Ben and I had a chance to discuss his affinity for Dancing with the Stars. Some of you already know this but Ben is a bit of a perv. The kind of frisky old poon hound who likes to hold onto a casual hug a little too lone. Turns out he had the hots for Tina. She had promised him a fox trot at some point in the evening and Im sure ben collected. Ben asked me if I fox trotted and I sadly admitted that I did not. It was then he asked me if I ever watched the Dancing with the stars. I said that I was familiar with the progrum but that I had never seen a full episode. I will leave you with the full transcript of our conversation.

Ben: You should watch it Paul, its just fantastic.
Me: oh yeah, I will have to do that.
Ben: There is one young gentleman on there that is just outstanding. absolutely wonderful moves.
Me: Whose that?
Ben: His name is Mario Lopez. A real Dynamo.
Me: Indeed Ben. Indeed.

wife confession...
From age 14-23 I was a dance instructor at a very well known local dance studio. From ages 17-23 I needed supplimental income if I was ever to move out of Coral Springs Florida to The Big Apple. So on Friday and Saturday nights, I was a star member of DSR Entertainment (now called Pure Energy and I just looked it up, the m.c. I worked with is still at it! http://www.pureenergy.net/_david).
We mainly did Bar/Bat Mitzvahs and the occational wedding or private New Years Eve parties. I was a motivator ("come on grandpa, get up outta that chair and shake it!"- this was the 1990's mind you). I danced with my fellow dancers, I led choreographer numbers to YMCA, the Macarena, and (of course) Shout. I learned that 13 year old boys are sweaty and alkward while 13 year old girls are too mature for their own age. (I can't even image how they are now!) The events I attended costed more than 5x what our weding cost. I learned in Boca Raton FL that is how the families battled, by who had the biggest/best Bar/Bat Mitvahs for their children (think my super sweet 16). It was something. Thanks for taking me down memory lane Paul. I think I have come along way since those days, but I still remember the choreography like it was yesterday. 10/07/07, look out on that dance floor! Can't wait!!!
