What to do When Rob and Big is on Against PTI

or

Today I was faced with a question that requires careful consideration - what to watch when two of your most favorite TV programs are on at the same time (with no DVR). You could do the obvious and flip back and forth but this presents the constant opportunity of missing a brief moment of either program. One's favorite program requires full commitment and occasional shushing of less interested parties that may be in the room.

I have had a fondness for the Rob and Big program since its inception. I can easily say that there are few programs that bring me such joy as the RandB show. I watch the whole episode with a smile on my face. I revel in the comradery of a small white man who is super good on the skateboard and a large black man who is his bodyguard, roommate and playmate.

I have also had a fondness for PTI since its inception. Two grown man talking about sports in an entertaining and informative way is quite compelling television. Tony and Michael always take on the most delicate of sports issues with full swings of emotion, insight and common sense that is often lacking in today’s very politically correctness.

On the surface these show would seem to be completely separate, about different things, different formats and unrelated. The surface is the only place these shows are unrelated. One layer deeper both shows are about human relationships – more directly relationships between men. Both shows share a common bond of male bonding. Whether it is through disagreement and arguing about the merits of Terrell Owens as a teammate or sharing in the extreme absurdity of buying a mini-horse – each program is a constant illustration of how men relate and share with one another. This is why I think I enjoy both programs so much, because I can relate to the way they relate.

For all their separate antics and outbursts and lewd and unexplainable behavior the programs are made up of four separate individuals that share the common trait - a good heart. A lot of weirdness, unsocial, argumentative age inappropriate behavior can be overcome with a big kind heart and a few well placed zings of comedy. A valuable lesson for the kids.

So what did I do? I watched Rob and Big as PTI repeats at 6:30. Thank goodness for the lazy nature of ESPN programming.

As always, DO WORK!

well done councilman. as someone who understands what its like to be gay 25% of the time while only getting erections for women (more specifically pam the wam), i appreciate the slightly homoerotic male bonding happening on both programs.

Loving another man is not gay unless you are missing your pants. Otherwise, it is just funny, entertaining, and significant.

Louis Armstrong annoys me.

epic interview on mtv overdrive... i agree wholeheartedly with your decision to watch the R&B show, and hopefully they'll figure out that being trumps doing errytime..

PGD, still feeling good about the swap, although i remain puzzled that they left a man out. perhaps i'll hang it next to my 'Mike, Trey, and Paige' shirt....
