let me start by saying that i heart VA (almost as much as i heart this amazing graph that happens to take the shape of VA). it in many ways is still my home. when returning to NoVa to visit friends and family i find myself referring to hit as "home." growing up i was raised to by two quasi hippie uber liberal parents who taught me tolerance and understanding over hatred, judgement, and ignorance. at the same time however, my parents (two yankees from nj) always held a certain disdain for the southern half of the state. Many of you have heard my fathers (sober) rants and ravings about leading the secessionist movement from the south. and while i consciously or subconsciously took on these views i fondly remember my first real ventures to parts south of prince willaim co to places like massanutin, the beloved town of Blacksburg, VaBeach and kings dominion.

to my point.
this is probably the last place to have this discussion (rant) but i find myself angered and saddened by this story:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18729541/
as mayor mikey tries to put his foot down and use his political might to curb the unadulterated flow of semi automatic handguns from running up the iron pipeline to the streets of ny dirty c the clever fuckers at the above mentioned gun shop have decided to give away two guns, an assault rifle
and a handgun. the neatness is not about political rantings and neither am i put i must say i hate handguns more than spencer from the hills. i can appreciate the right to bare certain arms and as a realist i recognize this is part of our constitution and will most likely never be repealed. but handguns?????? seriously....handguns?? wtf. i hope that this does not offend any gun supporters out there but owning a handgun is effin luda. and im sorry if this touches a nerve for all you out there still trying to wrap your heads around how and why the recent tragedy could happen at such a tranquil environment of higher learning as Va Tech. but right now my love for the state meant for lovers is being tested. not even sure what i expect anybody to do about it. just had to get this of my chest. really im sorry for all this. no other place to vent. stay neat.
all the arms i need

This raffle is being sponsored by some rogue guy/organization with a shitty agenda that involves heavy envelopes under tables from the gun makers. People are pissed, its all over the local news. It is rediculous, and va is not to blame. They are making a point, much like charleton heston did in colorado after columbine. Why can't people have class? Fine, you own a gun and shoot your son when he unexpectedly comes home early from college. Good, you shot a man who came into your house because he lost his job due to downsizing to maximize your 401K and all he wanted was your overpriced tv to help feed his kids. Shoot then find out the details. I am too much of a pussy to shoot someone. I don't own a gun, and probably never will. Nice new angle on the posting Paul. Current events are neat.
oh snap. I haven't been on the site in a bit & I see things are getting deep. I like it. Had to weigh in on this one.
Mr. Dolphin- you are far too intelligent to let this moron who is looking to get a 20 second clip on CNN & an interview with Geraldo ruin your view on the Old Dominion. Don't get me wrong, I get disgusted with aspects of the dirty dirty (a lot of "problems" come down to a lack of education/$$) all the time, but to blame people using guns in the windy apple on the south? To me this "iron highway" is more political blame game where some people/groups have to take a fall & it damn sure isn't gonna be an elected official. Of course guns are coming from out of state...nyc is a mecca for all sorts of professions and gangsters/wanna be gangsters are no exception.
As far as handguns go I think they have their place. I don't think Cletus needs 14 of them in his closet loaded with the safety off. But if a single Mom raising her kids in a tough area can sleep a little better with one in a safe spot- i'm all for it. I do agree with stiffer laws, but honestly I don't know how much good it would do. The Tech disaster could happen anywhere, anytime to anybody...a danger of living in a country that offers so much freedom- enough ranting.

As far as guns go... shotguns - ok, rifle - ok, even handguns - ok but assault rifles - why in gods name does anyone need a rifle that can shoot 20 rounds as fast as that fuck can pull the trigger. Noitce the lack of a question mark - not a question because there is no answer. Handguns were around when our political forefathers wrote the document that allows us to rant and also rave about these vary things. What was not around where guns that people had in their homes that could take out a whole regiment. The reason the gun people give for for protecting their right to own any type and quantity gun is as soon as any type of gun right is take away all their gun rights will soon be taken away. Is there any logic behind this, yes. But, but the logic is ineed flawed and becomes circular. If you take away one of my rights(The right to own a killing machine.)you will certainly take away all of my rights so therefore I will fight you from taking any of my rights. Now there is also the question, and the real crux of the matter, is owning a assault rifle a right given to the citzens of the United States? I believe that it is not. Guns will always be a part of life here in the US. Are they the cause of the problems we have, no. Are they necssary to create these social problems, yes. Are they sufficient to cause these problems, no. Does it make sense to fight back against these gun laws? Of course. But, but, only as a part in the fight against the great ills that contribute to sad and horrific events that are acted with guns.
Say it, mean it, live it.
